Young Sheldon watch order: the quick answer
For the Cooper family story in chronological order, watch:
- Young Sheldon seasons 1–7 (aired 2017–2024, set 1989–1994)
- Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage (2024–present, set in the mid-1990s)
- The Big Bang Theory (aired 2007–2019, set in the present day of its era, with an adult Sheldon in Pasadena)
If you'd rather watch in release order, start with The Big Bang Theory and switch to Young Sheldon once you've seen its first ten seasons, since Young Sheldon premiered in 2017, during The Big Bang Theory's 11th season. Either way works. Young Sheldon was made to stand on its own.
Young Sheldon seasons 1–7 (2017–2024)
Young Sheldon aired on CBS from September 25, 2017, to May 16, 2024. Created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, it's a spin-off and prequel to The Big Bang Theory that follows Sheldon as a gifted kid growing up with his family in Medford, Texas. Iain Armitage plays young Sheldon, and Jim Parsons, the adult Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory, narrates as the grown-up looking back.
The story opens in the fall of 1989, when nine-year-old Sheldon starts high school. Here's how the seasons line up with the in-show years:

That's 141 episodes in all. Season 3 was cut short at 21 episodes when production stopped in March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the final season was delayed to February 2024 by the 2023 writers' strike.

- Young Sheldon S01E01: Pilot. Sheldon learns that his intelligence isn't always helpful in East Texas, where church and football are king.
- Young Sheldon S02E22: A Swedish Science Thing and the Equation for Toast. The season 2 finale aired on May 16, 2019, right after the series finale of The Big Bang Theory, and it's full of references to it. If you're watching both shows, this is the place to line them up.
- Young Sheldon S07E12: A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture. George Sr. gets an exciting job offer, and Sheldon prepares to move to California.
- Young Sheldon S07E13: Funeral and S07E14: Memoir. The one-hour series finale. Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik appear on screen as the adult Sheldon and Amy, and we learn that the narration has been Sheldon writing his memoir.
Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage (2024–present)
In January 2024, CBS announced a spin-off following Sheldon's older brother Georgie and Mandy McAllister, who is more than a decade older than him. Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage premiered on October 17, 2024, and it's a direct sequel to Young Sheldon, set in Medford in the mid-1990s. Montana Jordan and Emily Osment reprise their roles, with Rachel Bay Jones and Will Sasso as Mandy's parents, Audrey and Jim.
The newlyweds are raising their daughter, CeeCee, while still living with Mandy's parents, and Georgie works at Jim's tire shop. Familiar faces from Young Sheldon, including Mary and Missy Cooper, turn up too.

Start with Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage S01E01: The 6:10 to Lubbock, where Georgie and Mandy are fed up with living with her parents. The first season ends with S01E22: Big Decisions, as Georgie does everything he can to buy the tire store before Jim sells it. Season 3 premiered on October 8, 2026, with S03E01: Feminine Wiles and Some Tire Thing in Lubbock.
Where The Big Bang Theory fits
The Big Bang Theory aired on CBS from September 24, 2007, to May 16, 2019, for 12 seasons and 279 episodes. It's set years after Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy, with adult Sheldon working as a physicist in Pasadena alongside Leonard, Penny, Howard and Raj.
The shows connect in fun ways. Georgie eventually turns his father-in-law's tire business into the Dr. Tire chain mentioned in The Big Bang Theory. Zoe Perry, who plays Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon, is the real-life daughter of Laurie Metcalf, who played the adult Mary on The Big Bang Theory.
